Car crash: car makers caught between the diesel fraud, the German export model and necessary alternatives

With their global market orientation and heavy diesel vehicles, German car manufacturers in particular are among the central actors of fossil-fueled capitalism and imperial lifestyle. They are pushing their agenda through not only with the usual pressure of lobbying, but also with a high degree of criminal energy (cartelization, diesel fraud). However, holding onto the internal combustion engine and the established export model is driving us straight into a climate catastrophe. It’s high time for alternatives. But which ones? Electric vehicles? Environmental taxis? More cycling? Instead of promoting electric vehicles, we urgently need to shift passenger and freight traffic from road to rail and switch from private to public transport. But who will enforce this? And how? And what will happen to the people who are currently making a living by building cars?
