Trading on a guilty conscience: carbon credits distract from the true problem and are unjust

Trading on a guilty climate conscience is as controversial as it is popular: bus trips, brochure printing jobs and weekend getaways to exotic destinations all offer “climate-neutral” options for a few euros more. The aviation industry promises “carbon-neutral” growth as of 2020 and is thus dodging a debate about genuine transformation. The workshop will explore the theoretical contradictions in emissions trading and provide examples showing how the modern-day indulgence trade not only fails to protect the climate, but also produces new injustice.
